Beating Angels, Chapter 4 : Me Special? But in what?

As Loïc walked me back to my room after the little visit, I finally decided to ask the question that had been in my head for a few minutes already.

“Loïc?” I paused before continuing. "What exactly did you mean by the fact that the school is only for those who are not like the others?" »

“I mean that Evergreen High is only for people who have a complex/a difficult past, powers or both at the same time”

Evergreen High, so that's the name of the school. Rather stylish, I love it.

“You see, for example, me in addition to being unsociable, I can also read minds. » adds Loïc

“Nah no jokes? Ok, so go ahead, tell me what I was thinking”

"Easy, just now you were thinking about the name of the boarding school being super stylish" he paused before adding with a touch of disdain "And just before you were thinking about Jonathan Edward"

I nearly choked on my own saliva. I had asked him the question as a joke, but I was far from imagining that he was serious. And moreover why Loïc hates Jonathan so much. What did this young man do to him? Besides, I didn't hesitate for a second to ask him the question.

"On the other hand, there is something that I don't quite understand. Why do you hate this, Jonathan, so much? »

"I already told you, he's dangerous" replied Loïc with a firm tone. The drier you die.

I couldn't help but feel bad. Loïc is the only friend I've had for a few hours, and he's already mad at me.

“I'm sorry, but justified, stay away from Jonathan. I care a lot about you and I don't want anything to happen to you” said Loïc with a softer tone. I can tell he feels bad for raising his voice at me. But, I'm still affected by the behavior he had earlier. Only, I keep it to myself and make it seem as if nothing had happened.

"But don't worry, it's nothing, but otherwise how dangerous is Jonathan?" I still do not understand. I said, still confused.

"Jonathan is not human" he said

" Pardon ?" I replied. "So what is he?" I continued

"A fallen angel" he replied.

“Huh? what's a fallen angel?" I say, confused and stunned

“You still have a lot to learn. Do you know angels? " Loïc asked me.

"Yes, the beings with white wings and who embody purity and peace" I replied

“Yes, exactly, and fallen angels are angels exiled or banished from the world as a punishment for their disobedience, most have black wings. They are also called demons, if you prefer”.

So there I am completely lost. Do we live in a crazy world or what? I who thought that angels and demons did not exist, I was seriously mistaken.

"Yeah, okay" I replied, still in shock at what Loïc had told me.

“And if not, you, what is your power? You must have one." asked the redhead.

“Huh, me, having a power? No, I don't think so." I answered him, "if I had a power, I would have known, wouldn't I?"

"Yes, I'm sure you have a hidden power." You are special, Lyra”

“Special me? But in what? I'm just a poor human who killed her big sister. I'm just a murderess, a monster. That's why my parents sent me to this backwater,” I said, with tears gradually starting to well up in my eyes.

“But you'll have to stop blaming yourself, I repeat, it wasn't your fault. It was just an unfortunate accident."

“Easy to say, it is after all from me that this glow and this strength came out”

“Lyra, there is your power, you have superhuman strength, I told you so. You are special. »

"This power as you say still cost the life of my big sister" I said, sobbing even more. Loïc approached me and took me in his arms to calm me down.

“I'm so sorry, but be sure of one thing, you had nothing to do with it. You really need to stop being so hard on yourself. You just hurt yourself more. So please, stop blaming yourself,” Loïc told me, trying to comfort me as best he could. Except that I still feel guilty of Eliane's death.

Once I have almost calmed down, Loïc puts an end to the hug before adding: "Come on, I'll walk you back to your room"

I sketched a little amused smile before answering him: "I can go alone, you know."

"I know, but I still want to come with you" replied the redhead while giving me a smile

"Ok, so let's go" I added laughing

So we head to my room while talking about everything and nothing.

“See you tomorrow then” Loïc told me before going back to his room.

once he closed the door, I decide to take a quick shower before going to bed.

I choose a mini white shorts with clouds and a black crop top as pajamas, and I got into bed with my favorite book in my hands.
